Teaching

Thomas Hewitt's teaching experience encompassed all ages and levels of aspiration including professionals. His students went on to many important Companies and Schools including ABT, Joffery Ballet, Sacramento Ballet, Oakland Ballet, Marin Ballet, Marin Dance Theatre, REB and North Carolina School for the Arts. Additionally, a former Boston Conservatory student graduated from the Master’s Degree program in Choregraphy at UCLA. Thomas also taught (in her youth) Margarite Derricks, a two time Emmy Award winning choreographer based in L.A.

His approach to the Training Experience placed major emphasis on the following:

  1. Personification of beauty and grace
  2. Progressive pedagogy to impart the necessary technique to dancers at all levels.
  3. Engagement in the love and joy of movement.
  4. Focus on the expression of emotions.
  5. Dramatic ability to make story ballets come to life

Mr. Hewitt's strong belief in fostering talent led him to personally offer scholarships to exceptionally promising students.
